We’re supporting the ILF in a number of ways

For children in remote Communities, accessing books can be tough, and literacy levels can be lower than other parts of Australia. Together with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, we’re using our vast network to support the delivery of books to First Nations children in remote Communities.

Bring First Nations storytelling into the classroom

Through our partnership with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, we’ve collaborated with Yankunyjatjara and Wirangu educator Shelley Ware to create a teacher guide and lesson plans complementing ‘Country tells us when…’, a bilingual book in English and Yawuru languages written and illustrated by Tsheena Cooper, Mary Dann, Dalisa Pigram-Ross and Sheree Ford.

Book Supply program

Since partnering with the ILF in 2020, we’ve ensured the safe delivery of over 300,000 books to 356 remote First Nations Communities, giving children and their families access to new and culturally appropriate books.

ILF’s Book Supply program is designed to give children more opportunities to read and build their literacy skills, with 50% of books authored and illustrated by First Nations people.

The Pen Pal Club

We’re helping primary school students across the country get excited about reading and writing through our Pen Pal Club program.

The program’s accompanying storybook, written by Sally Morgan and illustrated by Annie White, follows four pen pals who exchange hand-written letters, learning about each other’s families and hometowns.
